Band setup for live-room recording

Tracking a band together means using the room, controlling bleed and letting everyone play their part. In Wien we plan layout and monitoring before the first downbeat — in our live room with iso booths for vocals or guitar.

Room, capacity and rates

Nohexevo offers Band recording in a 38 m² live room with 2 iso booths and up to 7 people in the live area including musicians and engineer. Hourly rate €158 with engineer; a ten-hour day is €939. Prices include 20% VAT. Scope: Band recording.

At Lindengasse 14 the studio has 3 rooms total; the desk offers 24 inputs and 16 mic preamps — enough for typical rock, indie and jazz line-ups. Book via Contact; we usually reply within 2 working days.

Line-up and layout basics

Default live layout: drums in the room, bass and guitar amps on platforms, optional bass DI. Guitar or vocals in an iso booth when bleed hurts — especially on quiet sections. We tape positions so retakes match.

Larger line-ups (horns, extra players) need a plan — sometimes split takes or overdubs. If only part of the set is live and the rest overdubbed, we order passes so bleed does not haunt the mix later. 30% deposit holds the day; free cancellation up to 7 days ahead under our rules. Hours: Tuesday–Saturday 10:00–22:00; closed Monday and Sunday. Evening sessions by appointment..

Drums and bleed

Fresh heads and a tunable kit save time. Bring your snare or cymbals if you rely on specific sounds — we provide a base kit and stands. Gobos between kick and amps reduce HF bleed; overheads define space, room mics optional for mix.

For Mixing say upfront if you want drum buses or multitracks. Export rules: Delivering stems for mix. Levels: play slightly quieter and use amps rather than clipping room mics.

Guitar, bass, keys

Combo amps angled or baffled; avoid firing into the kit if snare and hats must stay clean. Bass DI plus amp mic keeps options open. Keys direct DI or small amp — no floor wedges next to the kick.

Bring tuners and cables; we have spares but your pedal order is yours. Vocal overdubs after live takes: Vocal recording and Vocal prep.

Monitoring and talkback

Everyone needs a clear headphone mix — too loud hides pitch, too quiet makes players dig in. Talkback from control is labelled; hand signals for “from the top” beat shouting across the room. Run endings and arrangements before counting takes.

On ten-hour €939 days, schedule breaks; use time for fewer strong takes, not dozens of half-finished ones.

Travel, neighbours, evenings

U3 underground station Neubaugasse (about 4 minutes on foot). Tram line 49 stop Neubaugasse. From Westbahnhof take U3 towards Simmering to Neubaugasse. In Neubau we keep sensible SPL — amps not unnecessarily wide open into the street. Evening sessions by appointment; tell us loudness expectations when booking.

Parking in Neubau is tight — plan for U3 Neubaugasse. Minimum age 16; youth bands need agreed supervision.

After the session: files and master

We deliver multitrack or agreed bounces per brief; archives 12 months then deletion per Privacy policy. For release: Mastering — loudness notes in Streaming loudness for master.

B2B payment term 14 days. Legal frame: Terms. Planning questions: 01 405 82 16 or [email protected].
